Ocean color protocol development of biogeochemical and bio-optical measurements for GOCI-II sensor validation: A preliminary result

The 2nd Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI-II) was launched in February 2020 to succeed the mission of the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI). GOCI-II employs one near-ultraviolet wavelength (380 nm) and eight visible wavelengths (412, 443, 490, 510, 555, 620, 660, 680 nm) and three near-infrared wavelengths (709, 745, 865 nm) to observe the land and marine environment in Northeast Asia. GOCI-II is expected to be highly useful in a wide range of fields, including monitoring the marine and coastal environment, using improved spatial and spectral resolution, increased number of observation and full disk observation mode. With broad utilization of the GOCI-II, validation of its products is considerably important. For the accuracy and reliability of the GOCI-II products, the establishment and development of protocols for the validation are essential. In this study, we investigate and compile the protocols of field observation for GOCI-II products, including chlorophyll- a (Chl), total suspended materials (TSM), colored dissolved organic matters (DOM), and absorption coefficient ( a ) from the international space agencies (NASA, ESA, etc.) and international ocean color organizations (IOCCG, etc.) and other related research papers.
